It might sound unfair and also impractical to start working on shoulders without knowing about muscles that build your shoulder up. We should first acknowledge ourselves about the muscles which make up your shoulder muscles.

What muscles make up your shoulder?

Your shoulder is made up of two muscle groups: Extrinsic muscles [it originates from the torso and directly attaches to your shoulder bones(Trapezius, latissimus dorsi, Rhomboids, levator Scapulae )] and intrinsic muscles [ originates at scapula/clavicles & attaches to humorous ( Teras major, Deltoids, Rotator Cuff )]

But that isn’t it. Working on the shoulder doesn’t only benefit your looks it is also executed for relieving the pain of recurrent shoulder dislocation. A study by Karolinska Hospital’s Department of Orthopedics found that when patients started doing specific/ advised exercises, those patients who performed exercises targetting Rotator cuff’s pain were limited.

Before we get into the workouts let me tell you something that there will be 5 different workouts for the shoulder which will have specific aims ir specialities

  1. Workout for shoulder mass
  2. Workout for delt definition

{Note:- Among these three, 3 of them will be shoulder workouts at the gym ( meaning that multiple gym equipments will be needed). }

Workouts notes:-

  1. These workout doesn’t mention warm-up set. You can choose that of your own.
  2. It would always be better to have a spotter. You can also add dropset in each workout for better results.
  3. Choose ideal weight which lets you do the maximum amount of reps and also should be heavy enough.

Best workout for shoulder mass

Goal: Overall Shoulder(Delts) mass
This is one of the shoulder workouts at the gym. It requires equipment like:
Tip:- For building overall shoulder mass, you should always start with multijoint overhead presses which are most compatible in your case ( in which you can lift most weight). The second exercise should also be a multi-joint move and the final three should be single-joint movements that target each of the delts i.e. Front, rear and middle.

You can also make the workout harder by making some changes. You can either use Dumbbells for overhead press, It will be comparatively harder to balance and give more range of motion than that of machines/ barbells. Have a spotter and do some forced reps. It makes the shoulder sorer.

For a balanced development, work more on your middle delts. Because you will already have worked your front delts and rear delts on your chest and back workout respectively.

Lifting lightweight and doing higher reps is good for shoulder mass(as shown above) but it isn’t considered for getting defined shoulders. For muscle definition, you should be moving faster and burn your muscles(delts) while going through the workout. And it is also one of the shoulder workouts with cables.

While you are on a tour or at some conditions where you don’t have the availability of gym equipment you can easily find dumbbells. Or you can even carry a pair with you. If you think Dumbbells won’t be possible then there’s another one, Shoulder workout at home. It is mentioned right below this.

Before that let’s talk about this workout. In this workout, we are gonna start off with 4 sets of Two arm dumbbell upright rows. Followed by 5 other exercises.
